Post-menopausal women who regularly take aspirin or other painkillers, according to a new study, may have lower estrogen level in the blood, which explains the reduction in the risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
The study lasted 2 years and involved 740 women who had to fill out forms, indicating the level of consumption of analgesics (aspirin, paracetamol, ibuprofen and others), and to do blood tests.
The level of estrogen in the blood was lower in women who regularly took painkillers by 12-15% on average.
Why these drugs reduce the level of estrogen is unclear. The results of the study are a possible explanation of the fact that the use of painkillers reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
However, before giving any advice to women during menopause, the authors believe it is necessary to further study the mechanisms of interaction.
