Urogenital system is a complex of organs of the reproductive and excretory systems, which anatomically, functionally and embryologically are connected together. Certain organs of the urinary system carry out the reproductive and urinary function, for example the male urethra.

The Urinary system is presented in the human body as a pair of kidneys and renal ducts, urinary bladder and urethra. The structure of the urethra in men and women differs anatomically.

The reproductive system in males consists of testicles, epididymis the main sperm producing organs, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and Cowper;s glands ejaculatory fluid producing glands, and lastly vas deferens, urethra and the penis the pathways through which the sperm travels until ejaculated.

The female reproductive system on the other hand is anatomically completely different. The system consists of the following:

  • Ovaries - small paired organs where the eggs are produced
  • Oviducts or Fallopian tubes ducts through which during the process of ovulation the egg travels to the uterus,
  • Uterus the most important human reproductive organ in which the embryo is being fertilized and develops through the pregnancy period,
  • Cervix the lower part of the uterus which is connected to the vagina,
  • Vagina the external organ of the reproductive system.
